When Everything Falls Apart: Rebuilding Your Life with Kettia Ming
Description
In this episode of 9-5 Exit Plan, I sit down with entrepreneur, nonprofit executive, author, and Boston Marathon qualifier Kettia Ming.
Kettia built a childcare business from her basement into a seven-figure company with four Manhattan locations before selling it to Fortune 500 companies.
But after the sale, one of those companies came after her in a legal battle that nearly destroyed everything she’d built.
Kettia survived that chapter, along with divorce and bankruptcy, and eventually reinvented herself at 52 by stepping into nonprofit leadership. She went on to help transform Black Theatre United from an organization operating with less than $200,000 into a $1.5 million operating budget.
We talk about entrepreneurship, selling a business, legal battles, resilience, financial setbacks, starting over later in life, leadership, running, and the mindset required to keep moving when the life you planned no longer exists.
At the heart of the conversation is Kettia’s message:
Run the mile you’re in.
You don’t have to know exactly how the entire race ends.
You just have to keep moving through the chapter you’re living right now.
