We start a lot of episodes by apologizing to our listeners in the UK, so we’ll go ahead and do that again…we realize that Madness were breaking UK singles chart records in the 80s, and yet we’re still calling them one hit wonders on our show. Here’s the thing though: we’re dumb Americans, and here in the US, they DID only have one hit. “Our House” went to #7 on the Hot 100 in 1983, and apparently, we couldn’t even handle the actual album it was on…we instead needed our own compilation of the band’s greatest hits. Have no fear though, listeners, as here at One Hit Thunder, we grew up on the ska-punk of the 90s, and we realize the importance and influence of this long-running English band. This week, we’ll dive into “Our House” (which we believe is one of the greatest songs of the 80s), and we’ll even go one step beyond that.
