Episode 21: Advertising, Home-schooling, Negative Friends, Stocks?
Description
One host is moving into a new Arlington house near the stadiums and exploring a camper-rental idea for the backyard - rent a spot to game-day visitors for around $100 a night instead of $289 hotel rates. Co-workers pushed back hard on the safety angle, but the other host already rents rooms in his own home without issue. The two discuss how Airbnb and short-term rentals let them build toward financial freedom and eventually homeschool their kids while traveling - rent out the primary residence for a month, use the income to fund a family trip to Paris or South America, teach on the road instead of being chained to a school calendar that conflicts with airline flight benefits.
Other topics: a debate over cashing out equity versus paying down mortgages faster for clean cash flow, why JCPenney stock at three dollars might be a short-term play into the holidays, the 401(k) as "free drinks at the casino," meeting real estate contacts including Ken Boome at a local meetup, and the Amazon HQ2 bid - Dallas or Atlanta over Detroit because corporate talent wants a place they actually want to live. The hosts also vent about public schools as worker-factory pipelines, 24-hour news cycles that depress and manipulate, and the pressure to perform perfectly on social media. Twenty-one episodes in, no sponsors yet, so they can still say what they want.
