Evan and Bailey own a 1968 Airstream in Fort Lauderdale that they renovated for $7,000-$10,000 and now rent on Vrbo and Airbnb for $72 a night. Between the Airstream and their duplex unit, they cover their entire mortgage - which is less than the $600 studio rent they used to pay. One February booking on the Airstream alone pays the whole month's mortgage.
The hosts and guests trade strategies on house hacking, avoiding city permits with the "stupid card," buying children's movie tickets on Fandango, and running Airbnbs without registering with local authorities.
