Scott Jennings on Building a Service Business and Managing Short-Term Rentals
Description
Scott Jennings went to prison for drug dealing, got out at 38 with a $40 gate check, and built a commercial fitness equipment service company covering the East Coast from Pennsylvania to Atlanta. When COVID-19 gutted his short-term rental calendar in North Carolina, he pivoted hard - switching to corporate midterm stays, moving to his third channel manager (Owner Res), and building direct booking systems to own his customer base instead of relying on Airbnb scraps. He's now a board member and teacher at Inmates to Entrepreneurs, helping formerly incarcerated people level the playing field through business ownership.
The conversation covers rebranding from FitTech to Service RX after years of being blamed for other companies' mistakes, the power of college towns and medical facilities for consistent STR demand, why residential fitness customers are harder than commercial ones, platform dependency as the real COVID lesson, local short-term rental regulation done right, prison reform, morning routines, YouTube Premium as a master class, and building a brand (Sojourn International) that travels worldwide. Scott's headed to Panama once borders reopen.
