Back to EpisodesJames part 3 - A Faith Without Deeds Cannot Save Anyone
Description
A sentence can sound spiritual and still mean nothing: “I believe in God.” James refuses to let us hide behind that kind of talk. We sit with James 2:14 onwards and feel the force of his claim that faith without action is dead and that empty belief cannot save, cannot witness, and cannot even be shared honestly.
Robbie Langford brings the perspective of decades of gospel work across nations, including places where open evangelism is restricted. That real-world pressure test raises a blunt question: if preaching is closed down, does our Christian faith still show itself through compassion, generosity, and courage? We also dig into James’s shock line that the devil believes too, and why the New Testament insists that true faith is centred on Jesus Christ, not general “God consciousness”.
Then we tackle the classic tension between James and the Apostle Paul on faith and works, Romans, Galatians, and justification. We argue they are not contradicting each other but fighting different errors: Paul confronts dead works that try to earn salvation, while James confronts dead faith that never obeys. Abraham and Rahab become vivid case studies of living faith, and we end with the unforgettable example of Ignatius, the martyr nicknamed the “God-bearer”, and the question his life leaves with us.
