Description
Coventry City are through to the third round of the Carabao Cup after beating League One Plymouth Argyle four two at Home Park. Frank Lampard made nine changes from the Arsenal team, Dan Bentley made his debut in goal, and Taiwo Awoniyi scored his first goal for the club inside three minutes before setting up Jack Rudoni two minutes later. Plymouth came back through Oliver Irow and Xavier Amaechi before Ephron Mason-Clark and a Victor Torp penalty settled it, with Sidiki Cherif making his Coventry debut off the bench. Lampard told CoventryLive after the game that his side made big mistakes for the goals but that the reaction was good. Plus the PFA have published their Championship team of the year for 2026, chosen by the players, and six of the eleven names in it are listed as Coventry City: Carl Rushworth, Milan van Ewijk, Bobby Thomas, Matt Grimes, Jack Rudoni and Haji Wright. And a look ahead to Saturday, when Hull City visit the Coventry Building Society Arena for Coventry's first home game back in the top flight.
