August 25 | How to Live in Joy

Description

Today’s reading from Psalm 119:1–88 and 1 Corinthians 7:20–40 invites us to consider what shapes the inner life when circumstances around us feel unsettled. Both passages point toward a steady kind of formation in which identity, obedience, and joy develop as we learn to remain rooted in what God has placed before us.

In Psalm 119, the writer returns again and again to God’s instruction as the rhythm around which life is ordered. The psalm begins with the Hebrew idea of ashrei, a deep sense of blessing and well-being connected to walking in God’s ways, showing us that obedience is not simply about keeping rules but about becoming the kind of person whose identity is steadily shaped by the Word.

In 1 Corinthians 7, Paul encourages believers to remain faithful to God within the circumstances and calling in which they find themselves. Rather than living with constant restlessness about what needs to change externally, Paul directs attention toward awareness, faithfulness, and a life centered on belonging to Christ.

Together, these passages invite us to reflect on what has been shaping us from within. They remind us that joy and stability are formed over time as we remain attentive to God’s Word, receive our identity from Him, and learn to live faithfully in the life He has placed before us.
