Why Maharashtra allowed homeopaths to prescribe modern medicine

Why Maharashtra allowed homeopaths to prescribe modern medicine

Published 12 hours ago
Description
According to the 2014 amendment to the Maharashtra Medical Commission Act, homeopaths who have undergone a one-year bridge course can be registered with the body that regulates allopathic medicine in the state, in a separate register. This almost grants equivalence to MBBS doctors and homeopaths who have undergone the course.

Doctors across Maharashtra went on a strike earlier this month to protest homeopathic doctors being allowed to prescribe modern medicines.

In this episode we speak with The Indian Express' Anonna Dutt about the reaons behind this development, what do homeopaths need to be trained in, in order to be able to register and why are doctors across the state against this development.
