Episode Details

Netflix is currently developing a feature film adaptation of Lynn Painter’s popular young adult novel, Better Than the Movies. The project has secured Beatrice Kitsos and David Iacono to star as the lead characters, Liz Buxbaum and Wes Bennett. Director Julia Hart is set to helm the romantic comedy, working from a screenplay she co-wrote with Jordan Horowitz and Heather Flanders. While a specific release date has not been announced because production is still pending, the film will eventually debut on the streaming platform. Additionally, the source notes that another of Painter’s works, Fake Skating, is also being adapted for a theatrical release by Sony Pictures in 2027. This surge in adaptations highlights the growing cinematic interest in Painter’s extensive catalog of contemporary romance books.
