Cs: Letní večer v pražských Vinohradech byl plný vůně rozkvetlých líp.
En: A summer evening in the Prague Vinohrady was filled with the scent of blooming linden trees.

Cs: Město žilo svým tempem, ale v bytě Lukášovy rodiny panovalo napětí.
En: The city was moving at its own pace, but tension prevailed in Lukáš's family apartment.

Cs: Lukáš seděl u stolu a zíral z okna ven.
En: Lukáš sat at the table, staring out the window.

Cs: Na stařičký parapet dopadal zlatožlutý svit zapadajícího slunce a on se pokusil své obavy zahnat do kouta.
En: The golden-yellow light of the setting sun was falling on the old window sill, and he tried to push his worries to the corner.

Cs: Lukáš odjakživa snil o studiu na univerzitě.
En: Lukáš had always dreamed of studying at the university.

Cs: Teď se mu jeho sen blížil.

Cs: "Marto, pojď ke mně," zvolala Anna na svou dceru.

Cs: Marta přiběhla z dětského pokoje.
En: Marta ran in from the children's room.

Cs: Byla plná života, ale od chvíle, kdy zjistila, že Lukáš odchází, byla zamyšlenější.
En: She was full of life, but ever since she learned that Lukáš was leaving, she had become more pensive.

Cs: Nevěděla, jak se cítit.

Cs: "Mami, Marto," začal, "co kdybychom měli večeři všichni dohromady? Můžeme si popovídat. O mém odjezdu."
En: "Mom, Marto," he began, "how about we have dinner together? We can talk. About my departure."

Cs: Večere začala poklidně.
En: Dinner started calmly.

Cs: Anna připravila Lukášovo oblíbené jídlo - svíčkovou.

Cs: Marta opatrně ochutnávala každé sousto.
En: Marta cautiously tasted each bite.

Cs: A Lukáš cítil, jak se atmosféra uvolňuje.
