Count Its Legs: Kerala’s Shape-Shifting Odiyans | Malayali folklore from Kerala in South India
Description
Before electric light reached the villages of rural Kerala, travellers were warned to examine every animal waiting beside the road. An unnatural bull, dog or buffalo might be an Odiyan, a practitioner of secret magic said to change shape, stalk victims through the darkness and carry out attacks for those willing to pay.
