The plan to sell off soccer's World Cup was controversial... and turned out to be shortlived.

After an intense backlash, FIFA boss Gianni Infantino has scrapped his plans to sell a stake in the World Cup - and other events - to private investors.

In a statement, he said that after listening carefully to different views, it's become clear the project has created divisions that are no longer in the interest of the objective set out in the first place.

The backdown comes after one of his senior advisors resigned too.
