Illinois Democrats, Republicans seek political momentum at state fair
Published 1 month ago
Description
Besides deep-fried Oreos, Cheetos-covered corndogs, and pork belly and fries in a cone, the Illinois State Fair offered a heaping serving of politics this week.
Democrats looked to re-elect Governor J-B Pritzker, replace retiring U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, and weather a sexual harassment scandal confronting House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch.
And Republicans tried to exploit Welch’s crisis, blame Pritzker for rising household costs and overcome a possible Democratic wave across the country this fall.
Here to break it all down for us is WBEZ’s state politics correspondent Mawa Iqbal.
