Episode Details

What movies have the greatest ensemble casts of all time?

On this episode of The Next Reel, Lance Taylor and Tyler Johns take a listener suggestion and each reveal their Top 3 favorite ensemble movie casts — from legendary directors like Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan, Paul Thomas Anderson and Peter Jackson to films packed with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Before the rankings, Lance and Tyler catch up on everything they’ve been watching lately, including True Detective, Lethal Weapon, Sugar, Lanterns, The Murdochs: Dynasty of Power and a deep dive into several underrated post-apocalyptic movies.

They discuss why True Detective Season 1 still holds up, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson’s unforgettable chemistry, whether True Detective Season 2 deserves its bad reputation, the possibility of Mel Gibson bringing Lethal Weapon back, Colin Farrell in Sugar, HBO’s weekly-release strategy for Lanterns, and much more.

Then it’s time for the main event: the best ensemble casts in movie history. Which movies make Lance and Tyler’s lists? And what films did they leave out?
