Her Own Mother Handed Her Over for $200.. The M*rder of SHANIYA DAVIS

Published 2 weeks, 4 days ago
Description

Five-year-old Shaniya Davis was reported missing from Fayetteville, North Carolina, on November 10, 2009. Investigators soon discovered hotel surveillance showing her with Mario McNeill, a man prosecutors said her mother, Antoinette Davis, had given access to Shaniya in connection with a $200 debt. Six days later, Shaniya's body was found near the Lee-Harnett County line. Authorities determined she had been sexually assaulted and killed by asphyxiation the same day she disappeared.

McNeill was convicted in 2013 of first-degree murder, kidnapping, human trafficking and related offenses and sentenced to death, a sentence upheld in 2018. Antoinette entered Alford pleas including second-degree murder and received roughly 17½ to 21¾ years.
