Matt Robertson is the genuine article—a working cowboy, horseman and award-winning Western singer-songwriter whose music is drawn from a life spent horseback. Raised in Wheatland, Wyoming, Robertson grew up starting colts as a young teenager and riding broncs before traveling throughout the American West and Canada cowboying and training horses. Today, he and his wife Paige make their home in Prescott, Arizona, where he continues training horses and writing songs.

Robertson began playing and writing music around the age of 16, finding inspiration in legendary Western artists Ian Tyson and Chris LeDoux. Rather than simply writing songs about cowboy culture, Robertson writes from firsthand experience. Horses, bronc riding, ranch work, rodeo, wide-open country and the people who make their living in the West provide the stories behind his music.

Over more than two decades as a songwriter and performer, Robertson has built an impressive catalog of original Western music. His albums include Makin' History, Just Cowboyin', Bronc Star, Bronc Scholar, The Dusty Ones, Arizona, and his 2026 release, Too Pretty for the Wagon. Songs including “Just Cowboyin’,” “Day Workin’ Cowboy,” “Makin’ History,” “Bronc Star,” and “Arizona” have helped establish him as a distinctive contemporary voice in cowboy music.

His work earned major recognition from the Academy of Western Artists when Robertson received three honors for his 2024 work: Western/Cowboy Male Vocalist, Arizona was named Western/Cowboy Album, and “The Letter” was selected as Western/Cowboy Song.

Robertson has also taken his music to some of the most respected stages and gatherings celebrating Western culture. He has appeared as a featured artist at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada, performed at the Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering, Dusty Vaquero Days and numerous events throughout the Mountain West.

What separates Matt Robertson from many performers is simple: the cowboy in his songs isn't a character. It's his life. Whether he's singing about a good horse, a hard day's work, bronc riders, ranch families or the disappearing traditions of the West, Robertson brings an authenticity that can only come from someone who has actually lived the stories he's telling.

Matt Robertson isn't just keeping cowboy music alive—he's documenting the modern American West one song, one horse and one story at a time.
