She Lost Everything Then Found Bitcoin | Paula

Season 2 Episode 36 Published 4 weeks ago
Description

In this episode of To The Moon with the Lunas, Anthony and Danielle sit down with Paula, host of The Bitcoin Edge, for a powerful conversation about her journey from Zimbabwe to Bitcoin, losing everything in a Bitcoin-related MLM scheme, self-custody, real estate, women in Bitcoin, health, and why Bitcoin eventually became much more than an investment.

Growing up in Zimbabwe gave Paula a firsthand perspective on inflation and the destruction of purchasing power. She was first introduced to Bitcoin in 2017, but after losing her money through an MLM scheme, she stepped away before returning to Bitcoin during 2020.

What started as a way to potentially secure her financial future eventually became something much bigger.

After years of saving in Bitcoin, Paula began to see the possibility of having enough for retirement and realized she wanted others to have that same hope. Her journey has taught her patience, low time preference, and why Bitcoin’s mission matters even when the price isn’t moving.

We also dive deep into one of the biggest conversations in Bitcoin: self-custody.

What happens to your Bitcoin if something happens to you? Does your spouse know how to access it? Is self-custody still too complicated for the average person? Paula shares what she learned discussing self-custody and inheritance at BTC Prague and why every Bitcoiner should be thinking about these questions.

Paula also explains why her perspective on real estate changed after discovering Bitcoin. As someone with experience in real estate, she began questioning whether dealing with tenants, maintenance, property taxes, and the traditional fiat system was worth it compared with simply holding Bitcoin.

We also explore why Bitcoin often leads people down other rabbit holes from health and food to education, government, relationships, and the meaning of money itself.

For Paula, health was actually part of her life long before Bitcoin. But once she realized how much she didn’t understand about money, inflation, and the Federal Reserve, she understood why Bitcoiners often begin questioning what else they may have gotten wrong.

And for anyone new to Bitcoin, Paula’s advice is simple: consider putting a little skin in the game, start learning, and give yourself a four-to-five-year time horizon to truly understand what Bitcoin represents.
