Chris Bishop: Transport Minister on the decision not to ease our clean car import standards
Published 5 days, 20 hours ago
Description
Transport Minister Chris Bishop says there was an overwhelming level of support to keep the clean car standard.
The Government's announced it will retain the standard after a review launched in November -- where it asked vehicle importers whether they supported keeping it.
The measure imposes annual carbon targets for vehicle importers, who must balance higher-emitting models with enough low-emission cars to meet it.
Bishop told Heather du Plessis-Allan importers were very supportive of keeping it.
He says they like it being in place and the benefits it brings.
