Alicia Stine on Turning a Passion for Photography Into a Business
Description
In this episode of the Kanawha Valley Hustlers podcast, I talk with Alicia Stine, owner of Adventure Through Lens Photography, about building a photography business in Charleston, West Virginia. Alicia started her business after deciding to pursue photography instead of staying in a job she did not want. Her work includes marketing photography for businesses, staff photos, client testimonials, portraits, and family milestones.
One of her first lessons was learning how willing other business owners and photographers were to help. She had avoided networking because she felt uncomfortable, but that changed when she began attending events and building relationships. Networking became a source of referrals, collaboration, mentorship, and business growth.
We also discuss the value of professional photography. Alicia finds that many businesses rely on phone photos when presenting their products, staff, or services. Her challenge is helping them understand that the images representing their company can shape a customer’s first impression.
As her business grows, Alicia is learning to stop doing everything herself. She is working on hiring, training, outsourcing, and creating systems that allow the company to grow beyond her own workload. Her advice to other entrepreneurs centers on communication, relationships, and persistence. When one path does not work, she believes the answer is to keep looking for another way forward.
