Ido Aharoni & Hanna Jahan Feroz: Building Cultural Bridges to the Iranian People

Published 2 weeks, 3 days ago
Description

Hanna Jahan Feroz, Alliance Center for Iranian Studies, Tel Aviv University

Our guest is the Tel Aviv-born, Iranian-born analyst, researched and musician Hanna Jahan Feroz. She describes herself as “an Iranian cultural researcher, lecturer, and world music singer”. She immigrated to Israel at the age of 12 following the Islamic Revolution. She holds a master's degree in Middle Eastern and Asian studies from Tel Aviv University, is known as the cousin of singer Rita, and frequently appears in the media and on various stages to analyze society, culture, and the status of women in Iran.

Her life's mission is to separate the brutal regime from the people and the glorious culture in the Israeli mind. "Iran is a 2,500-year-old cultural treasure. My goal in music and research is to be a bridge," she says. In her latest research, she reveals the painful sides of Iran that the media doesn't show: seven million street children who help support their families by working as prostitutes and selling drugs, and the wrestlers, the folk cultural heroes, who came out against the regime.
