Description
Trinity Seely is an award-winning Western singer-songwriter, horsewoman and storyteller whose music comes directly from a life lived in the saddle. Raised in the rugged Chilcotin region of British Columbia, Seely grew up working on her family’s guest ranch before her journey carried her across the American West, including cattle ranches in Wyoming, Nebraska and Montana. Those experiences became the foundation for songs that capture the realities of ranch life, horses, family, cowboys and the enduring traditions of the West.
Seely released her self-titled debut album in 2011, followed by Old Poly Rope in 2013, Cowboy’s Wage in 2015, Camp to Camp in 2018 and her latest full-length album, Lessons I’ve Learned, in 2024. Her songwriting blends traditional Western music, folk and country with something that can’t be manufactured — firsthand experience.
Her work has also earned significant recognition within the Western music community. Seely was named one of True West magazine’s favorite Western artists of 2012 and received multiple Western Music Association and Academy of Western Artists nominations. Her song “Cowboy Hat” earned the Western Music Association’s 2014 Song of the Year honor.
Another career highlight came with “The Hand,” co-written with legendary cowboy poet Waddie Mitchell. The song earned the Western Writers of America Spur Award for Best Song in 2016. Her album Cowboy’s Wage was also archived in the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, further recognizing Seely's contribution to preserving the musical traditions and stories of the American West.
Seely has appeared at some of Western culture’s best-known gatherings, including the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada, the Heber City Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival, the Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering and the Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering. Her music has even taken her internationally, including performances in Germany where she shared the stories and traditions of Western ranch life.
Today, Trinity serves as Director of the Horse Department at The Thacher School in Ojai, California, the same school she attended as a teenager. There she combines another lifelong passion — horses — with mentoring young people. The role continues a remarkable journey that has always revolved around horses, family, ranching and music.
At the heart of Trinity Seely’s music is authenticity. She isn't simply singing about Western life from a distance — she has lived it. From British Columbia to ranch country across the American West, her songs preserve the perspective of the cowgirl, ranch wife, mother and horsewoman while carrying those stories forward for another generation.
