Could Bryson Graham finally build a Chicago Bulls team worth spending on — and if he does, will ownership actually finish the job?

On today’s Chicago Bulls Central, Haize breaks down why Bulls fans do not need ownership spending recklessly right now. Chicago is rebuilding around Caleb Wilson, Matas Buzelis, Josh Giddey and a young core that still has major questions to answer. With the current CBA, there’s a real difference between paying the luxury tax and pushing deep into apron restrictions, so spending just to prove a point would be bad roster management.

But when the time comes? The excuses need to stop. The Bulls are valued at $6 billion, with Forbes estimating $160 million in operating income, while also noting Chicago has historically paid the luxury tax only once. That makes the eventual ownership test very real: if Graham develops a contender, will the Bulls actually pay like one?

Haize lays out the triggers for when Bulls ownership should open the checkbook: Caleb Wilson becoming a legitimate star, Matas Buzelis proving he can be a true No. 2 or high-end No. 3, Josh Giddey proving the core works, the Bulls winning a playoff series, or a genuine difference-maker becoming available.

Then the show shifts to the Bennedict Mathurin question. Do the Bulls actually need to rush into another scorer right now, or should 2026-27 be the year Chicago finds out what it already has in Dailyn Swain, Jaylin Sellers and Rob Dillingham? Swain brings size, downhill creation and two-way upside, while Sellers has a serious shooting résumé and already showed scoring flashes in Summer League.

If Mathurin comes at a bargain price, he’s worth discussing. But if the cost includes useful contracts, draft compensation, long-term money and major offensive usage, Haize explains why Chicago may be better off using this season as Bryson Graham’s information season before attacking the scoring market in 2027.
