LUIGI MANGIONE - The Full Timeline and the UnitedHealthcare CEO Killing
Description
On December 4, 2024, UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot outside a Manhattan hotel ahead of the company's investor conference. Five days later, Luigi Mangione was arrested at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, allegedly carrying a 3D-printed firearm, suppressor, false identification and writings critical of the health insurance industry. What followed were overlapping New York and federal prosecutions, terrorism allegations and an attempted federal death-penalty case that was ultimately dismissed on legal grounds.
Then, on August 14, 2026, Mangione pleaded guilty to two federal stalking charges resulting in death and publicly admitted that he intentionally shot Thompson. He now faces possible life imprisonment at his December sentencing. Meanwhile, his attorneys are attempting to stop his September New York murder trial, arguing that proceeding after his federal conviction would violate New York's double-jeopardy protections.
