In the small hill town of Montefiore, there's one rule everyone follows without question: you eat at Trattoria Bellini, or you eat at Osteria Conti — never both. The two restaurants have faced each other across the same piazza for forty years, locked in a rivalry so old that nobody quite remembers how it started. Giulia Bellini certainly doesn't expect to fall for Marco Conti, the son of her family's sworn enemies, over a borrowed oven and a late-night cup of coffee.
Their secret works fine — until a famous food critic arrives in town to declare, once and for all, which restaurant deserves to be called Montefiore's best, and Giulia's grandmother spots Marco waiting outside the restaurant at exactly the wrong moment.
What follows isn't the explosive family war Giulia expects, but something far more surprising: a forty-year-old secret neither family has ever spoken about honestly, buried underneath a rivalry everyone assumed was about a stolen recipe.
