Simon Laube: Early Childhood Council CEO on ACT's plan to tighten regulations for people who work with children

Description

The Early Childhood Council says ACT's plan to strengthen vetting for people working with children will need to work better than the system it is inspired by.

The party is campaigning on introducing a Working with Children Card, which would ensure safety checks are continually carried out instead of once every three years.

It says Queensland has a similar system called the Blue Card.

But Council CEO Simon Laube says that hasn't worked very well.

"What I've heard is that there were reports happening, then whoever was the authority wasn't connecting the dots, and there was nothing that actually happened when people did do the reports."
