And welcome to episode 6 of my podcast. On this week's episode, we have Emre Busse, a Berlin-based academic and filmmaker.
Emre Busse is a Kurdish, Istanbul-born, Berlin-based researcher and erotic art filmmaker. He earned his Ph.D. from the Art History faculty at Freie University of Berlin, supported by a Hans-Böckler-Stiftung doctoral fellowship and has has taught seminar courses in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Bremen on the topics of queer sexuality and art.
In this episode, Emre and I explore a variety of topics, including the importance of archives in queer studies and queer culture; porn aeshtetics and porn as a legitimate art form; Greek-American art diva Diamanda Galas; the state of porn studies and art funding in the European academy and union; the prospects of Heated Rivalry and smut making a space for legitimizing porn studies and discussions of explicit sexual representation; Emre's book "Ethnicity as Desire: Post-Colonial Gay Pornographic Film in Europe" (2025) and his films "The Man Who Perceives All" (2024) and his upcoming film "Fistule" (2026).
