Episode Details

A raging storm at sea can make anyone pray, but what happens when the danger passes and you still have to face yourself? We share the gripping story of William P. Nicholson, an Irish evangelist whose life Pastor James W. Knox sums up in one line: from sea fever to soul winning. Nicholson survives the Roaring Forties and watches men cry out for mercy, only to forget God the moment they reach safety, a haunting picture of how close you can come to death without coming to real repentance.

Then the story gets uncomfortably personal. Nicholson is “snatched” again, this time at home by the fireside, when a voice presses him with a decision: now or never to accept or reject Christ. He describes a conscious, settled salvation and a new hatred for sin, yet he also admits the frustrating battle that follows, with fear, jealousy, malice, and defeat that won’t yield to willpower. That tension opens the door to the episode’s core teaching: the victorious Christian life comes through the controlling influence of the Holy Spirit, received by faith, not achieved by self-effort or religious performance.

The turning point isn’t a platform, it’s a sidewalk. Two Salvation Army girls, a banner, and “Daft Jimmy” with the words “Saved from public opinion” force Nicholson to choose between reputation and obedience, and that public surrender becomes the spark for fearless evangelism that circles the globe and changes countless lives. If you’ve ever wondered why your faith feels private, hesitant, or stuck, this message will press you to ask the hard questions and take the next step.
