Episode Details

Maryland’s congressional battle is heating up, and Berney Flowers says the final stretch will come down to trust, accountability and whether voters are ready for political change.

On this episode of Campaign Trail: The Road To Congress, host Todd M. Schoenberger sits down with Flowers, the Republican candidate seeking to represent Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District, for a wide-ranging conversation about the issues shaping his campaign.

Flowers makes his case for restricting congressional stock trading, arguing that tougher rules could help rebuild public trust and reduce concerns about lawmakers potentially benefiting from information unavailable to ordinary investors. He also discusses his support for voter-identification requirements and explains why election integrity has become a central part of his message.

The conversation then turns to Maryland politics, Gov. Wes Moore, the growing visibility of Democratic Socialists of America-backed candidates, campaign financing and Flowers’ criticism of his Democratic opponent. Flowers also argues that his military and national-security background provides voters with a clear contrast in the race.

Todd presses Flowers on the political realities of competing in heavily Democratic Maryland, the attacks likely to intensify before the November 3 election, and whether his campaign can convert online attention and grassroots enthusiasm into actual votes.

The episode also addresses the Key Bridge, Flowers’ call for action rather than political finger-pointing, and his campaign’s strategy for the closing weeks of one of Maryland’s closely watched congressional contests.

Can Flowers turn momentum into votes—and disrupt Maryland’s political status quo?
