How bad is Dansby Swanson's injury, Edward Cabrera's TERRIBLE outing, and Chicago Cubs disappointing weekend against the Cardinals
Description
The Cubs’ weekend against the Cardinals went from promising to disastrous in a hurry.
Chicago dropped two straight games to St. Louis after winning Friday’s opener, but the biggest concern coming out of the weekend is Dansby Swanson. The Cubs’ shortstop left Sunday’s game after an awkward swing and is headed to the injured list with a left oblique injury. An MRI is expected to provide more clarity on the severity and timeline, but losing Swanson at this point of the season could be a massive blow for a deep playoff run for the Cubs.
Then there was Edward Cabrera’s nightmare return to the rotation. Cabrera gave up 7 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks in just 3.2 innings, as the Cardinals erupted for six runs in the fourth inning. To make matters worse, Cabrera revealed afterward that a blister was affecting him during the outing.
The Cardinals ultimately cruised to an 11-4 victory, taking the weekend series 2-1 and leaving the Cubs with plenty of questions heading into a crucial stretch of the season.
In this episode, we break down:
- How serious Dansby Swanson’s injury could be
- Edward Cabrera’s disastrous outing and what comes next
- Why the Cubs couldn’t close out the Cardinals
