Episode Details

Today's reading covers Joshua 9 and Proverbs 11:21–24. The reflection traces the Gibeonites' elaborate deception of Joshua and Israel's leaders — and the key failure at the heart of the chapter: provisions were taken, but no counsel was sought from the Lord. That misstep is set against Proverbs 3:5–6 and the ongoing pattern of victory followed by folly seen throughout the conquest narrative, with an application toward prayerful dependence on God. In Proverbs 11:21–24, the discussion covers the certainty of divine justice, the vivid image of "a gold ring in a pig's snout" for beauty without discretion, and the proverb on generosity that flows from a righteous heart.
