En: Morning atop Tafelberg was cool and misty.

En: The mountain lay deep under a blanket of gray clouds, while light rain made the rocky paths glisten.

En: Anika, full of courage and excitement, stood ready at the foot of the mountain.

En: She had decided to take her brother Pieter and their cousin, Marlize, on an epic hiking trip today.

En: Despite the winter air, she wanted to show that Kaapstad had its own kind of enchanting beauty.

Af: "Pieter, jy het jou reënjas by jou, reg?
En: "Pieter, you have your raincoat with you, right?"

Af: " vra Anika, blik skerp maar vol liefde.
En: Anika asked, gaze sharp but loving.

Af: Pieter lag saggies.
En: Pieter chuckled softly.

Af: "Ja, ek het," antwoord hy, beoefenend 'n gelate houding toe hy sy reënjas nader trek.
En: "Yes, I do," he replied, adopting a resigned manner as he pulled his raincoat closer.

En: Marlize gazed with wide eyes at the impressive silhouettes of the mountain.

En: "I have never seen such a majestic mountain," she said in a soft, awestruck voice.

En: By the time they reached the first opening in the mountain’s paths, the drizzle had turned into something more persistent.

En: Anika felt worried but told herself it would clear up soon.

Af: Hulle stap verder, die pad vorentoe vaag in digte mistigheid.
En: They continued walking, the path ahead vague in thick mist.

Af: "Miskien moet ons omdraai," stel Pieter voor, skouers opgehaal asof hy reeds die koue wind kon voel.
En: "Maybe we should turn back," suggested Pieter, shrugging as if he could already feel the cold wind.

En: But Anika stuck to her plan, determined to reveal the full beauty of Tafelberg.

En: They reached a turning point on the route.

En: The path was slippery beneath their feet, and the rain fell harder.

Af: Marlize gly amper oor die klippe.
En: Marlize almost slipped on the rocks.

Af: Skielik begin Anika twyfel.
En: Suddenly, Anika began to doubt.

En: Every falling drop reminded her of the responsibility she bore.

En: "We must turn back," she finally decided, her voice firm despite the disappointment she felt.
