4% Playoff Odds: The Pirates Have Reached the Breaking Point

4% Playoff Odds: The Pirates Have Reached the Breaking Point

Published 15 hours ago
Description

The Pirates had their opportunity to get back into the Wild Card race. Instead, they went 2-4 against the Mets and Marlins and now sit 59-64, 5.5 games out of a playoff spot, last in the NL Central and 12th in the National League with just a 4% chance to reach the postseason.

At this point, saying the season is essentially over isn't being dramatic. It's being realistic.

Tonight on NS9LIVE!, we discuss Brandon Lowe's comments about the pressure surrounding these games, Don Kelly calling out the team's lack of fight after Wednesday's loss, and whether that message should have come much sooner. The Pirates responded with a 13-1 win today, but after winning just three of their previous 15 games, was it already too late?

And even if the playoffs are no longer realistic, that can't become the mindset inside the clubhouse. There are still six weeks of baseball left. This team needs to compete, show some fight and play like there's still something on the line.

Boston is next.
