Church As It "Should Be" #2 | 1 Peter 3:8 | Pastor Tom Drion
Description
This sermon is part 2 of the Church as It "Should Be" series, continuing through 1 Peter 3:8. It considers two qualities that should characterise every Christian: sympathy and a tender heart.
Biblical sympathy means entering sincerely into the experiences of others, rejoicing with those who rejoice and weeping with those who weep. Drawing from Psalm 119, Mark 1, Mark 6, Matthew 9 and Philippians 2, the sermon contrasts an unfeeling heart with the compassion of Jesus. Christ was moved by the leper, the weary disciples, the hungry crowds and the spiritual condition of the lost. Ultimately, He humbled Himself and went to the cross for undeserving sinners.
The sermon explains that our lack of compassion reveals a lack of Christlikeness. It calls us to examine whether we are truly converted, confess our pride and self-centredness, behold Christ in His Word, and remember our own unworthiness.
