The Spirit-Filled Life: Part 4

Published 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Description

Waiting for a “tarrying breakthrough” can feel spiritual, but what if it’s actually keeping you from the simple, biblical Spirit-filled life God wants for you right now? We open Acts and follow the timeline carefully, showing why Pentecost happens on God’s appointed day and why the Spirit’s fullness is not something we earn through agony, fasting, or emotional build-up.

We also tackle a common question: is the laying on of hands required to receive the Holy Spirit? By looking at Samaria in Acts 8 and Ephesus in Acts 19, we explain the unique Jewish context and why God used apostolic confirmation and signs in those moments. Then we turn to Cornelius in Acts 10 and Acts 11, where Gentiles receive the Holy Ghost while the Word is preached, with no waiting and no intermediary. That becomes a clear pattern for believers today: hear the gospel, believe, and God gives abundantly.

From there, we move into the purpose of being filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5 connects Spirit-filled living to worship, gratitude, relationships in the church and home, and spiritual warfare. Jesus’ picture in John 7 brings it home: the one qualification He names is thirst, and the invitation is to come and drink, meaning to believe. If you’re tired of dryness and ready for real surrender, Romans 12 frames the next step as giving Christ the throne of your life.
