On the other side of the ledger: the Locked On Mississippi State host said this week he is still not sold on Pete Golding. Golding took over mid-playoff run with the head coach leaving for a conference rival, kept the team together, won in the playoff, retained Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy through the portal window, hired a coordinator who had already run this offense, kept John Garrison and Joe Judge, and watched the coaches poll open Ole Miss at No. 10.

The honest counterweight, both ways: a 2028 commitment is two full cycles from signing day and kids flip, so hold it loosely. And three playoff games is a small body of work — Golding has never taken a team through a September as a head coach, or managed a two-game October skid with a fan base screaming.
