The Business Bottleneck That Is Limiting Your Growth

Episode 326 Published 1 week, 2 days ago
Description

In this episode of the Kanawha Valley Hustlers podcast, I talk about why most business owners do not have an effort problem. They have a focus problem. Being busy does not mean the business is moving forward.

Every business has a chain that moves from attention to sales, fulfillment and recurring revenue. Somewhere in that chain is a constraint. Until you find it, improvements made elsewhere may not change the outcome.

I walk through two common examples. The first is lead generation. A company can have trained employees, a sales team and a strong service, but none of that matters if enough people never learn the company exists. If attention is the constraint, that is where the time and money need to go.

The second is an owner who has to approve every decision. When every employee has to wait for one person, the owner becomes the constraint. Adding employees or generating more leads will not solve it. Standard operating procedures can move decisions away from the owner and give employees a path to get work done.

Every business will have constraints. Solve one and another will eventually appear. The job is to keep asking where work is waiting, where things are slowing down and where the process breaks. Find that point, solve it and then move on to the next constraint.
