14-Year-Old K*lled Her Mother & Caught on Camera.. CARLY GREGG

Published 4 weeks ago
Description

In March 2024, 14-year-old Carly Gregg shot and killed her mother, Northwest Rankin High School math teacher Ashley Smylie, inside their Brandon, Mississippi home. Much of the disturbing timeline was captured by surveillance cameras inside the family's house.

At her 2024 murder trial, Carly Gregg pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but a jury convicted her of first-degree murder, attempted murder and evidence tampering, resulting in two life sentences plus 10 years. Now the Carly Gregg case is before the Mississippi Supreme Court, where her attorneys challenged aspects of her conviction and sentencing in May 2026.

This episode of You Can't Unhear examines the surveillance footage, mental-health evidence, competing psychiatric testimony, murder trial and the disturbing question still surrounding the case: why did a 14-year-old girl kill her mother?
