Buried in Pioneer Cemetery, they’ve been without official recognition until now — while two other martyrs received new markers, this new monument, commissioned by local historian Karl Gridley and designed by artist Karl Ramberg, honors all four “Free State Martyrs” who sacrificed their lives fighting for Kansas’s freedom. The dedication ceremony takes place on Sunday, August 16th at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Cemetery — a moving tribute to history’s unsung heroes and a powerful reminder of the cost of standing for justice.
