What Being a Woman in Aviation Cost Me | Ella’s Story Part 1

What does it take to find your place in an industry that constantly makes you feel like you have something to prove? In Part 1 of Ella’s story, she takes us from her childhood in Western Kenya, through moving between different sides of her family, bullying in school and the years she spent trying to figure out who she wanted to become. Eventually, that search leads her to aviation. Ella shares how she found her way into aeronautics, the scholarships she fought for, the unpaid internships, the pressure to prove herself and what it felt like entering aviation maintenance as one of very few women in the space.

Along the way, she also reflects on something deeper: how different environments taught her to become different versions of herself and what happened when she finally found spaces where she could be fully Ella. This is Part 1 of Ella’s story. Part 2 continues next Monday.
