Jessica A. Martin on Content Creation and Community Impact
Description
In this episode of the Kanawha Valley Hustlers podcast, I talk with Jessica A. Martin to talk about her work in radio, social media, and the community. Jessica began by using her platform to support businesses, fundraisers, and events around Charleston. That work led to a role with 107.3 The Beat and a career in content creation.
We discuss the work people do not see. Content requires planning, scheduling, filming, editing, fact-checking, and a clear message. Jessica explains that building a name has become harder as more people enter the field and copy ideas that gain attention.
Jessica created the Golden Plate Society to bring a group of people together to review food and support restaurants. Each person brings a different view, which gives the audience more than one opinion.
We also talk about branding, networking, business cards, QR codes, and knowing how to explain what you do. Jessica learned not to spend money on every new idea or item. She now focuses on what the business needs.
After leaving the corporate world, she is working to spend more time with people instead of staying behind a screen. Her guiding principle is to find something positive in each situation. A surprise visit from Jay adds another lesson: help others the way you would want someone to help you. Jessica’s work shows how content can create opportunity while lifting the people and businesses around us.
