Your mind takes shortcuts. It fills in gaps with assumptions. It reaches for the answer that protects your ego instead of the answer that is actually correct. And it does all of this quietly, in the background, without ever asking your permission.We have a name for these shortcuts. We call them bias. And bias is not stupidity. Some of the smartest people I have ever known were the most fooled by their own minds, because they were so confident in their intelligence that they never thought to question themselves. That is the trap. The smarter you think you are, the less you check your own work.
