When author David Deane Haskell reached out and asked if I'd read The Solarian Deep and provide an honest review, I had no idea what to expect. What I found was an accessible cyberpunk adventure set in a future where humanity has abandoned the surface, built self-healing cities beneath the ocean, and even transformed some people into technologically enhanced mermaids and mermen.
Did the story completely win me over?
Not quite.
But the worldbuilding, futuristic technology, and underwater setting made for a memorable reading experience that sci-fi fans should know about.
