Psalm 90:12 is one of the most quietly convicting prayers in all of Scripture. Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. Moses, writing from a long view of human existence, understood that the scarcity of our days should change how we spend them. Not with anxious urgency, but with the kind of intentionality that comes from knowing life is a gift that does not last forever.

When we see our days that way, priorities shift. The things that seemed essential start to look different. The white space stops feeling like wasted time and starts looking like exactly what it is: an opportunity to slow down, to invite God's presence, and to hear a voice that gets drowned out when the calendar is relentlessly full.

Maybe tonight the calendar waiting for tomorrow feels like too much. Or maybe the opposite is true, days fading into each other without enough purpose or connection. Either way, the invitation is the same. Ask God how to steward the days ahead. Let Him show what matters most and what can be released. True refreshment begins not with a better system but with putting Him first.

The brevity of life is not a reason for anxiety. It is a reason for wisdom.

Ponder Tonight

Efficiency alone cannot create the kind of margin that allows us to truly rest in God's presence. Margin is not a scheduling problem. It is a wisdom and priority problem, which is why Psalm 90:12 frames the brevity of life as the foundation for growing wise.

White space on the calendar is not wasted time. It is room for God's voice, for genuine rest, and for the kind of unhurried presence with Him that a packed schedule consistently squeezes out.

Moments with God do not have to be long to be meaningful. Even five or ten minutes of genuine connection can reorient a heart and realign priorities that have quietly drifted.

Recognizing that life is brief should not produce anxiety about how much we have left undone. It should produce a clarifying wisdom about what actually deserves our time and attention, which is one of the most freeing realizations available to us.

Your Evening Prayer

Father,

Forgive us for not always leaving room for You in our calendars. There is no one more important, and yet distractions and busyness so easily crowd out the time we most need with You. Help us prioritize what matters most, beginning with You.

You are our Creator, our Provider, and our loving Father. Your presence brings joy and peace. We are at our best when we begin our days with You, and that truth is worth protecting on the calendar and in the heart.

Help us see the white space as opportunity, room to slow down, to invite Your presence, and to hear Your voice. And where the calendar has been overfilled, give us the wisdom and courage to make changes that honor the brevity of this life and the priority of knowing You.
