Lesson 8: The Two Information Ecosystems
Description
Life has developed two distinct ways of accumulating and applying information — operating at completely different speeds, using completely different storage mechanisms, serving the same ultimate end.
The first is billions of years of evolutionary wisdom, encoded in the genome. The second is the stream of real-time information flowing through a living system in response to its immediate environment — beginning not with brains, but with the very first cells.
Together, these two ecosystems explain something that neither can explain alone: how the hunger you feel is ancient, while the choice you make about what to eat is entirely yours.
