Paul sails for Rome in chains. The timing couldn’t be worse: it’s in the autumn of the year when the seas are treacherous. Paul warns the centurion that the voyage will cost cargo, ship, and lives, and the centurion trusts the pilot and the owner instead. Then the northeaster hits. Sailors haul the gear in, throw the tackle overboard, and watch the sun and stars disappear behind the clouds for days. By verse 20 every man aboard has been robbed of all hope of salvation... but Paul has some good news for them!
