Before the Declaration of Independence was NC’s Halifax Resolves
The 250th birthday celebration of our nation has revolved around the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. But here in North Carolina there’s another day from that year that may be just as important. On April 12, 1776, North Carolina became the first colony to formally call for independence from Great Britain. The call for freedom came to be known as “The Halifax Resolves” and had a big impact on both North Carolina and American history.
