Description

In this episode of Talking O&G: a RANZCOG Podcast, host Dr Cecile Bergzoll speaks with Dr Silipa Naiqiso and Dr Sathana Ponnampalam about the rising rates of endometrial cancer in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Cases of endometrial cancer are rising globally, and Aotearoa New Zealand has some of the fastest-rising rates in the world. However, there are significant barriers to care due to a lack of funding for areas such as diagnosis, molecular-directed care, and immunotherapy. Dr Naiqiso and Dr Ponnampalam examine these barriers, the strategies being developed to address the crisis, and advice for clinicians.

They explore the changing demographic of women impacted by endometrial cancer and the equity gaps that exist for Māori and Pacific women. Dr Naiqiso and Dr Ponnampalam stress the need for a public awareness campaign in addition to advocating for funding to improve access to diagnosis and care in Aotearoa.
