Mosquito season’s hitting the Eastern Shore hard — and Maryland’s taking flight to fight back. Starting Monday evening, a white twin-engine plane with red and blue stripes will buzz low over Dorchester and Somerset counties, spraying a targeted, ultra-low-dose insecticide called Trumpet (containing naled) to slash adult mosquito populations. No need to evacuate — pets, families, and livestock can stay put. Dorchester’s getting treatment on 14,949 acres including Andrews, Black Water, and Crapo, while Somerset targets 1,234 acres around Ewell, Rhodes Point, and Smith Island communities.
