Today we’re breaking down the newly launched GiveSendGo campaign created on behalf of some of Nolan Xavier Wells’ former friends and why it has sparked so much criticism online. The campaign states that it is raising money for legal expenses related to alleged defamation and slander, but after taking a deep dive into the fundraiser and consulting with our legal professionals, there are several questions that deserve to be asked.

We’ll explain why GiveSendGo may have been chosen over a more mainstream crowdfunding platform, discuss some of the differences between the platforms, and examine the wording of the fundraiser itself. One point that stands out is that nowhere in the campaign description does it explicitly state that all of the money must be used for a legal defense or that any unused funds would be returned to donors if no lawsuit is ultimately filed or if the full amount isn’t needed. The fundraiser also references potential future lawsuits, which suggests there is currently no lawsuit requiring a legal defense at this time.
